Questa opera vuole documentare, con la forza delle immagini, il lavoro quotidiano dell’infermiere nella sua autonomia professionale, colto dallo scatto fotografico attraverso volti, mani, gesti, sorrisi, pianti, con asciutta naturalezza e trasparenza attiva.

Il Pronto soccorso, la Psichiatria, la Neonatologia, la Sala operatoria, la Robotica, l’Assistenza domiciliare, la Prima accoglienza ai rifugiati: sono qui rappresentati con duecento scatti gli oltre trenta contesti che costituiscono gli scenari quotidiani in cui operano i nostri 460.000 infermieri.

Un tempo l’infermiere si trovava in posizione subalterna non solo nel contesto lavorativo, ma anche agli occhi della società, anche se, fin da allora, era chiaro che il suo ruolo doveva essere complementare a quello del medico. Entrambi infatti osservano la stessa realtà che ognuno vede da prospettive diverse ma ben integrabili.

I giovani che scelgono oggi la professione di infermiere sono, sempre di più, persone speciali. Consapevoli che li aspetterà un lavoro sicuro, apprezzato e ricercato da un lato, ma anche scomodo e faticoso. Orari festivi e turni notturni, con sacrifici personali e familiari. Chi si avvicina a questa professione sa di dover prendersi rischi e grandi responsabilità, ma è altrettanto consapevole che tutto è ben affrontabile con la formazione e che lo studio gli conferirà identità e riconoscimento.

Questo libro dunque, e le splendide fotografie che presenta, sono dedicati a tutti coloro che, scegliendo questa professione, entrano in un mondo in cui gli infermieri hanno acquisito un patrimonio consolidato di nuovi ruoli, non solo nel rapporto con il paziente, ma anche nei percorsi sanitari ove dimostrano capacità di collaborazione trasversali e cultura della multidisciplinarità.

Through the power of images, this work aims to document nurses as they autonomously go about their daily work. Here the photo shoot captures them by way of faces, hands, gestures, smiles and tears, all with a straightforward naturalness and transparency.

The Emergency Room, the Psychiatric Ward, Neonatology, the Operating Room, the Robotics Unit, Home Care, and First Line Reception for refugees: the more than thirty environments that make up the daily settings within which our nurses operate are represented here with two hundred photographs.

Not so long ago this professional figure held a subordinate position both in the workplace and in the eyes of society. It has always been clear, however, that the nurse’s role should complement the doctor’s role. In fact, both are observing the same reality and perspectives, and although different, they strictly integrate with each other.

Today, the young people who choose to become nurses are, more and more frequently, special people. They are aware that a secure, appreciated and sought-after job awaits them, but also a job that is uncomfortable and tiring. Holiday shifts and night shifts, personal and family sacrifices: those who go into this profession know that risks and great responsibilities are involved, but they are equally aware that everything can be easily tackled with training, and that studying will give them identity and recognition.

This book is dedicated to all of those who, by choosing this profession, become part of a world where nurses have acquired a consolidated patrimony of new roles, not only in the relationship with the patient, but also in healthcare careers where they demonstrate transversal collaborative skills and a multidisciplinary culture.
